Uninsured and under-insured motorist coverage, commonly referred to as UM coverage, is probably one of the most under-appreciated forms of coverage. We highly recommend it. What uninsured motorist coverage does is it provides you with coverage for your own injuries, and your own damages, when the party you’ve been involved in the accident with, who was at fault for the accident, does not have insurance, or does not have sufficient coverage to pay for your damages. Under Florida law, no one is required to have liability insurance for bodily injury. If you are in the unfortunate situation of being involved in an accident with a driver who is at fault, who does not have bodily injury liability insurance, you are stuck, if you don’t have your own uninsured, under-insured motorist coverage.
